About Our Practice
Welcome to Albemarle Speech and Language Center! Our practice provides caring, compassionate, and sensitive Speech-Language Therapy services to Northeastern North Carolina's seven county area:
Pasquotank - Camden - Perquimans - Chowan - Currituck - Dare - Gates
Our organization serves all age populations in the greater Albemarle Area. The region's only private speech therapy practice, Albemarle Speech and Language Center was opened in early 2004 in response to the tremendous demand for rehabilitative speech and language services in Northeastern North Carolina.

"Because our area has grown substantially in the past few years, it has become increasingly difficult for traditional service providers, such as public schools, hospitals, nursing homes and home health organizations to adequately respond to the unique needs of individuals with communication disorders," says Hilary Dietrich, founder and President of ASLC.
The following Speech-Language Therapy Services are provided:
Located in Elizabeth City across from Albemarle Family YMCA, Albemarle Speech and Language Center is convenient to all major routes serving the region. Our facility is set in an easy-going and comfortable atmosphere that is conducive to rehabilitative therapies. We are co-located with The Therapy House, a private Occupational Therapy practice that also specializes in all age ranges. For those requiring both Speech and other therapy disciplines, our staff can coordinate a highly complimentary and synergistic therapy approach so that so that sensory skills and social skills can be addressed at the same time.

About Our Staff

We believe that one of the most critical components of a successful therapy outcome rests with the Speech Pathologists themselves. Their experience. Their demeanor. Their desire to create a successful outcome. Our entire staff is oriented around this belief.

Our Speech Pathologists hold Masters Degrees from accredited collegiate institutions, possess their Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology, are members of the American-Speech-Hearing-Association (ASHA), and are Licensed Speech Pathologists in the State of North Carolina. Each receives ongoing training on HIPPA Regulations and Compliance and has a thorough understanding of insurance matters as they relate to rendering Speech-Language Pathology services.

About Our Founder

"Quite the people-person."

"Simply adores children...just a big kid herself in some ways."

"You've been a Godsend to our family...thank you so much for all you've done!"

Hilary A Dietrich founded Albemarle Speech and Language Center in early 2004. Prior to opening ASLC, Hilary worked in a variety of settings including schools, nursing homes and residential facilities.

As a Speech-Language Pathologist for area schools, Hilary emphasized her knowledge regarding early childhood receptive and expressive language acquisition, the remediation of phonological processing disorders and articulation speech disorders, and the development of age appropriate social interaction skills.

As a clinician, Hilary demonstrates the lively energy and playfulness required to motivate the youngest patients, but also possesses the flexibility to address the unique speech-language issues of the geriatric population with grace, sensitivity, and respect. Hilary's professional experiences with regional nursing homes and home health agencies have reinforced her knowledge regarding dysphagia (swallowing disorders) and the elderly patient, dysarthria, apraxia, aphasia and disorders of cognition.

Hilary has provided services to infants, children, adolescents and adults with communication needs related to: developmental delays, down syndrome, autism, oral motor dysfunction, oral sensory dysfunction, feeding difficulties, reduced respiratory/phonatory support, head trauma, cerebrovascular accidents, and cleft palate.

Hilary holds a Master's Degree in Education from Old Dominion University and a Bachelor of Health Science in Communication Disorders from the University of Missouri. Hilary has held several internships with Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Portsmouth Naval Hospital and Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters with age populations ranging from infants through geriatrics.

Hilary and her husband Kyle live in Elizabeth City with their three young children, Kellan, Simon and Katie Jane.
